PARTNERNEWS 6/2024 - 18.07.2024
Dear TACHOfresh-Partner,
Welcome to another newsletter in 2024!
By participating in international and national expert forums, we gain insight into the details and problems in the field of digital tachographs, especially the
introductory problems to the G2/V2 version. Some of the most important results of the discussion on the topic of the introduction of the SmartTacho G2/V2
we would like share here.
Currently known errors / problems of the Digital SmartTacho G2/V2
The last record on the driver card did not end correctly - the card was ejected/removed before all activities were saved. It can happen that the GNSS
information is missing or an outdated country code is stored.
With G2/V2 it can happen that "WLD" (Rest of the world) is displayed at “ferry” instead of the correct country license plate change.
If the country change is automatically recorded, the start and end may be incorrect. Causes can be malfunctions in the vehicle due to toll devices, USB
hubs, etc.
The technical data from G2/V2 show invalid signature if the vehicle registration number initially has been confirmed in the DTCO with a company card.
Incorrect detection and storage of a tachograph manipulation (IDF, GNSS anomaly) at Stoneridge, GNSS anomaly at VDO. A software update during
the next calibration of the SmartTacho should correct these errors.
Other:
The G2/V2 Stoneridge tachograph has the calibration option to automatically record the country crossing on older driver cards (G1 and G2.1).
For the replacement of older tachographs to the new G2/V2 version (mandatory for international transport), it is strongly recommended to install early and
with a time buffer. OEM versions are different, and a retrofit can take longer than a week. In some cases, truck manufacturers have to be asked to send
updates, because without that the communication between truck and SmartTacho G2/V2 does not work (anymore).
Update on OSNMA Introduction & Retrofit Obligations for this Feature
The introduction of the new Galileo satellite-based authentication for SmartTacho G2/V2 has been delayed again. Recent Update from Continental VDO on this
topic:
The Galileo Open Service Navigation Message Authentication (OSNMA) has (only) been in field testing since March 2024; the field tests are not yet
completed; final release to be expected in August 2024 (?)
In order to be able to use the satellite-based OSNMA feature after release, the previous so-called transitional tachographs G2/V2 require a workshop visit
The update of the transition tachographs to full SmartTachographs G2/V2 including the OSNMA feature is not mandatory!
Depending on the manufacturer, the transitional SmartTachographs G2/V2 can in future be distinguished from the full G2/V2 tachographs including OSNMA
by the software number (nameplate/display).
Result:
As long as there is no final release for the Galileo satellite-based message authentication OSNMA, there is still a lot to be done!
Obligation to retrofit older tachographs as of 31.12.2024 is on the way
We would like to point out to all partners once again that customers are obliged to convert their older tachographs to the new G2/V2 version
if their vehicles are used in international business. We received information from neighboring European markets that approx. 20% of vehicles already have
G2/V2. 80% are pending for retrofit until end of 2024. Workshop appointments for G2/V2 retrofits are already scarce today.
If you have any questions about these topics, the TACHOfresh team will be happy to help you!
Kind regards,
Your Tachofresh Team!
